Qur'anic verses - The first Qur'anic revelation:
There is a cave, named Hiraa, in the side of Mount al-Nur in the suburb of Makkah. To which Muhammad used to retire for peaceful contemplation. Days and nights he spent pondering in the realm of Lord. Not till the age of forty, the veil was lifted from the Preserved Tablet. And its content began to be transferred by revelation to be proclaimed to the whole world. The first revelation of the Qur'an began here in Hiraa cave by these verses in 610 AD. Thereafter, the revelation of the Qur'an continued until 632 AD.
The very first revealed word was: 'Read' or 'Proclaim!' The unlettered Apostle was puzzled; he could not read. The Angel, Gabriel, seemed to press him to his heart in a close embrace, and so it happened three times until Muhammad started to recite the revealed words which made clear his mission; its Author, God the Creator, its subject, Man, God's wondrous creation, its instrument, the sanctified Pen, and the sanctified Book, the Gift of God. The Bible, in the Book of Isaiah (29:12), gave an exact account to Muhammad's first and unique experience, and his response to the first revelation.
